An introduction to the RCO and visit to St George's, Hanover Square

An extremely enjoyable outing to Hanover Square with an informative talk about the RCO and some wonderful short organ recitals.

The CLESO visit to St. George's Hanover Square was an excellent afternoon with Simon Williams giving a most informative talk about the role of the RCO, its training and events programme as well as its film, library and archive facilities. He followed this by telling us a bit about the new organ at St. George's built by the American Richards, Fowkes & Co. in 2012 and demonstrated it by playing Buxtehude's Praeludium. He then very generously gave us his time for the rest of the afternoon guiding each player with the registration of this huge instrument. It was a full but most enjoyable event with time to chat and catch up with old and new friends.

As a new member I found the emailing and contact with the Society leading up to the event extremely helpful. I felt very welcome and the event was extremely informative and from this presentation and from speaking to the president, I have now joined the RCO and look forward to attending the events they have on offer. Great to hear how much they do for all abilities and standards.

The organ was very enjoyable to play and the organist gave a wonderful demonstration of the organ. I find it a key part of joining an organ society that it allows its members to play and all members supported each person playing.

I look forward to the next events coming up and glad to have joined the society and the RCO. If you have an interest in the organ, choral music or play/sing of any ability, this society will welcome you with open arms.
