RCO Summer Course for Organists - each year the RCO welcomes between 60 and 75 organists of 'all ages and stages' to their Summer Course which is based at St Giles Cripplegate Church, Barbican, London. Some people play in churches, other do not; some want to learn about how to improvise, others about playing service music; some like to play in concerts, others prefer to listen; some like to book several individual lessons, others prefer to learn in graded groups. Whatever your preference, the course offers the chance for participants to personalise their timetable to suit their needs to a large degree. An early bird discounted attendance fee is available until 28 February. Bursaries are available for those who need financial support. Full details and online booking can be found at

David_Bird_Sir_Andrew_Parmley_and_Mark_James1Sir Andrew Parmley, former Lord Mayor of London, appointed President of the City of London and Eastern Society of Organists

We are delighted to announce that, at our 2018 AGM, Sir Andrew Parmley accepted CLESO’s invitation to become our next president.

With this appointment, CLESO continues its long association with City organists. Sir Andrew succeeds Catherine Ennis, organist at St Lawrence Jewry and past president of the Royal College of Organists, and also two former organists of St Paul’s Cathedral, John Scott and Malcolm Archer.

Sir Andrew is passionate about the City and involved in many aspects of City life. For over 35 years he has been the Honorary Organist of St James Garlickhythe and is the first organist to have been appointed The Lord Mayor of London serving in 2016-17.

Sir Andrew's broad experience in music, education and the creative industries together with his long career in teaching, research, examining, adjudicating, writing, composing and editing will be a great asset to CLESO. His mission, like CLESO’s own, is to promote education and training in the musical arts and encourage a wide appreciation of the organ as an amazing musical instrument.

CLESO is indebted to Catherine Ennis who has served for many years as CLESO’s President. Catherine has always taken a strong interest in CLESO’s activities and has been a wonderful figurehead.
